Chapter 2: Redemption

Text: Psalm 120

Group Discussion Questions

1.) The author correlates this chapter with Psalm 120, the first Song of Ascents. There is nothing joyful about this psalm but as the author states “But it gets things started.” What led you to repent and seek after the Lord? Was it hard or easy to let go of the sin, nonsense and despair that was obstructing your heart to Christ? Describe the peace the Lord blessed you with upon committing to Him.

2.) Now that you have a new perspective on life through the eyes of Jesus, what lies has our Lord revealed to you about the world we live in? How are you responding to these revelations and what are you doing to align your spiritual walk, your lifestyle and your relationship with Jesus? Does your response demonstrate your repentance of the old ways and living a Christ-like life now?

3.) In explaining Israel’s rejection of Egypt, Peterson writes: “The truth of God explained their lives, the grace of God fulfilled their lives, the forgiveness of God renewed their lives, the love of God blessed their lives.” How would you say these words apply to your spiritual walk and life today? Do they help explain what you left behind in the “old man” that you were? What areas of your life has the Lord revealed to you that still need work today?
